To give you a somewhat simplified answer, Onstar Hands-Free Calling is a wireless, voice-activated calling system built right into your new GM vehicle. Start it by pressing the Voice Command button and saying a saved contact name or phone number you want to call. OnStar system will connect you with your contact while keeping your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.

Using OnStar Connected and Hands-Free Calling requires that you purchase a plan that suits your needs. You can easily buy minutes for your vehicle when you run out by just pushing the blue OnStar button located inside of your vehicle. This type of technology lets you purchase a new prepaid minutes package when you need it. Your already-existing minutes will roll over and be added to that package. All purchased minutes are valid until their given expiration date or the date your OnStar service expires, depending on which one occurs first. If you already have minutes on your current vehicle, they will roll over onto your new GM vehicle. You will also know you are receiving a call when you hear a ringing sound and see the green System Status light start to flash. Just push the voice command or calling button to answer the incoming phone call. Then, when you are ready to end the call, press the button again. It is that simple!
