Spring Car Maintenance Tips for Chevrolet Owners

Spring is the perfect time to give your Chevrolet a once-over and address any issues after the long winter months. To help you out, we’ve put together a complete guide of key spring maintenance for your Chevrolet to keep things running smoothly.

Your Step-By-Step Guide

1. Wash the Undercarriage

Winter roads leave salt and grime stuck to your vehicle’s underside. Over time, this can lead to rust and corrosion. Use a hose with decent pressure to wash away the salt, paying particular attention to the areas around the wheels and underneath your Chevrolet.

2. Check and Change Wiper Blades

Cold weather and ice can damage your wiper blades, wearing down the rubber, making them less effective and potentially scratching your windshield. Inspect your wipers for any cracks, tears, or loose rubber, and have them replaced if needed. You’ll be glad you did when the next spring rainstorm hits.

3. Inspect Tires and Adjust Pressure

Temperature changes impact tire pressure. Throughout the winter months, weather fluctuations will likely have done a number on the air in your tires. To avoid trouble on the road, ensure all your tires, including the spare, have the correct amount of air, as recommended by your manufacturer. While you’re at it, check your tire tread for uneven wear or damage.

4. Test the Battery

Cold weather can be hard on batteries. An essential part of Chevrolet maintenance is testing your battery to ensure it’s holding a good charge. Clean off any corrosion on the terminals and ensure the connections are tight.

5. Top Up and Replace Fluids

Check and maintain all the important fluids in your Chevrolet, including engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Top them up if they’re low and have them replaced if they look dirty or old.

6. Inspect Brakes

When you’re out driving your Chevrolet, listen for any unusual noises when you brake, such as squealing or grinding. These sounds could mean your brake pads are worn, or that there is another issue. Have a professional check your brakes to ensure they’re working properly.

7. Examine Belts and Hoses

Cold temperatures can cause belts and hoses under the hood of your vehicle to become brittle or crack. As a part of your Chevy maintenance routine, inspect them for any signs of wear, including fraying or leaking, and replace any that look damaged.

8. Change Air Filters

Over time, your air filters can get clogged with dust and debris, reducing your vehicle’s efficiency. Replacing both the cabin air filter and the engine filter can help increase airflow and maintain good engine performance in your Chevrolet.

9. Clean the Inside and Outside

Remove any clutter from inside your car—that includes lingering dirt and mud, forgotten garbage, and those items you didn’t feel like carrying in on the cold days. Once the interior is clear, give the carpets a good vacuum and wipe down all the surfaces. Finally, wash the exterior to get rid of any remaining salt and consider applying a coat of wax to help protect the paint.
