The Ultimate Showdown: Pitting the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Against the Ford F-150
Competition in the full-sized pickup truck market is fierce, and two giants are at the head of the pack: the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle and trying to choose between these two powerful trucks, we’re here to make the decision a little easier. In this article, we’re pitting the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 against the Ford F-150.
Under the Hood
The 2024 Ford F-150 features a variety of engine options, each integrating Ford’s EcoBoost® technology. On the lower end, the 2.7-litre, V-6 turbo engine features 325 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. The F-150’s top engine option is the Raptor R supercharged 5.2-litre V-8 engine, which features 700 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. Each of these engines has a 10-speed automatic transmission with several trim options, including four-wheel drive as a standard feature.Â
Conversely, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers four engine options, each assigned to a different trim level. These are:Â
- 2.7-litre four-cylinder turbo engine with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque
- 5.3-litre V-8 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque
- 6.2-litre V-8 engine with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
- 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbo diesel engine with 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque
While the Silverado’s four-cylinder engine comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, other options include a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Safety Features
Safety is paramount in the design of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which comes standard with features such as pre-collision assist, post-collision braking, and lane departure warning. The same can be said for the Ford F-150. In higher trim levels, drivers can take advantage of advanced safety features such as lane-keep assist, blind spot alert, and evasive steering. Additionally, Chevrolet has included its Super Cruise hands-free system on the High Country trim, which uses cameras and sensors to keep the vehicle centred in the lane while driving hands-free.    Â
Cargo Space
Both the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the Ford F-150 are available in three cab sizes and bed lengths. While Chevrolet offers 5.7-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot beds, Ford offers 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8.5-foot beds.Â
Interior Comfort & InfotainmentÂ
Each of these trucks seats five or six passengers, depending on the cab size. While lower trim levels in the F-150 come with cloth upholstery, leather-trimmed upholstery comes standard with the Lariat and higher trim levels. The Silverado offers the choice of vinyl, cloth, or perforated leather upholstery, with vinyl being standard in its lowest trim option.Â
When it comes to technology, the Silverado features a 3.5-inch driver information display in lower trim levels and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display. In higher trim levels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display is included alongside a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The Ford F-150 includes a standard 12-inch digital instrument display and the Sync 4 infotainment system in all trim levels. Both trucks’ infotainment systems include integrated Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Price
The 2024 Ford F-150’s base pricing ranges from $50,300 to $108,895, depending largely on model and trim. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is slightly more affordable, with a lower starting MSRP of $47,925 and the top-end starting at $86,699.Â
2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or Ford F-150: Which is Better?
While each of these trucks has its merits and benefits, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is the clear winner with advantages such as a larger truck bed in its base model, a better range of options under the hood, and a vast list of safety features, which includes the Chevrolet Super Cruise hands-free driving system.Â
